Winter time is near.

This is some fall weather we've had huh? kinda reminds me of winter! Although our calendars show that winter starts on the 21st of December, nature is showing us that it doesn't care what our calendars say! We went to Des Moin on I-35 yesterday (December 10) and there were dozens of Tractor Trailers off the road and turned over, and dozens more cars and trucks off and turned over. NOT GOOD!! The towing companies will have every truck they have running in order to get these vehicles back on the pavement. It was quite a nasty winter type storm. To those of you that drive distances to work or have to make those long trips during the bad weather, just remember to give yourself three times the start and stop time (and three times the stop distance) don't make any sudden changes to your direction when the roads are in bad condition. If you find yourself already in a skid, Try NOT to panic. turn your wheel into the skid. In other words, turn your wheels in the direction you'd like your vehicle to go and DON'T slam on the brakes! Keep a sharp eye and use caution, and you can drive right through even the worst conditions if you have to. Three winters ago, Autumn and I drove to San Antonio TX. As we left Harrison County the freezing rain began. We drove through Kansas City and Oklahoma City in pure Ice covered roads. Caution and slow moves got us all the way to Texas without incident. It can be done, but please remember that snow and especially Ice, are cause for alarm when driving.
We hope everyone has a Happy and SAFE Holliday season!

Allen and Autumn
